Subject: Look what they wrote about my son

My son will be home by the end of the month. Thank you all for the prayers and support.  Below is a letter which his Captain sent to me telling about what a good job he has done.  I knew he downplayed what he was doing so I would not worry.  I am just glad my baby is coming home safely.

Mrs. Barnes, My name is Captain Eric Fiedler and your son Brian has worked for me during the last year. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you what a great job he has done. I know that as any good son and soldier, he has downplayed his activities here in Baghdad so the family was not worried. We are now safely at the airport waiting to come home in about a month, so you no longer need to worry about him. Brian showed courage on many occasions here. We spent neary every day in the City. We are a four man team whose job it was to conduct missions with the infantry when it is nescessary to work with the population. I am not a supporter of this war, but I can say that your sons hard work directly impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of civillians. We helped to provide clean water, electricity, security, and trained the local government. During these difficult days, I constantly relied on Brian to watch my back. I personally requested him to be a part of our team after witnessing him make a very competent decsision under pressure that held the life of an Iraqi man in the balance. I am sure that none of this is a surprise to you, since he displays characteristics that can only be had by being raised well. He has the moral courage to admit when he is wrong and be humble when he is right. I am proud to say that while I was here I watched him change from a young guy to a young man. I want you to know that we are as proud of him as you must be. Best wishes to you and your family. Respectfully, Eric Eric P. Fiedler 450th CA BN (ABN) CPT, CA
